Role Overview

The Senior DevOps Engineer is responsible for delivering and implementing DevOps automation solutions for our clients.

The Senior DevOps Engineer will build and run cloud infrastructure and software services primarily in Azure cloud environments. The role focuses on automating processes wherever possible to reduce manual tasks and activities, following an agile approach to delivery and prioritising work to maximise efficiency.

The Senior DevOps Engineer will support the team by helping to solve problems and creating and using reusable assets, while also supporting the broader Azure Core team by providing input into infrastructure and security deployments.

The role includes building and deploying tools and services used in DevOps environments such as performance monitoring, security monitoring, deployment and configuration management, continuous integration/build servers, and cloud resources.

Main Responsibilities

• Build, configure, and maintain CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps Pipelines and/or GitHub Actions for multiple applications and environments.
• Implement and manage Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform, Bicep, or ARM templates for provisioning Azure resources.
• Deploy, configure, and manage containerised workloads using Docker and Kubernetes (AKS).
• Automate build, test, and deployment processes to improve release frequency and reduce manual effort.
• Manage source control workflows, branching strategies, and pull request/code review processes in Azure Repos or GitHub.
• Configure and maintain monitoring, logging, and alerting using Azure Monitor, Application Insights, Log Analytics, or Grafana/Prometheus.
• Support incident response and troubleshooting for production issues, performing root cause analysis and implementing fixes.
• Implement security best practices in pipelines, including secrets management through Key Vault and vulnerability scanning.
• Collaborate with development teams to optimise application performance, scalability, and deployment readiness.
• Manage environment provisioning across development, test, staging, and production environments, ensuring consistency and repeatability.
• Contribute to documentation, runbooks, and knowledge sharing within the team.
• Mentor junior DevOps Engineers and support their technical growth.

• Actively participate in practice development, collaborating with colleagues to create or enhance reusable tools, frameworks, and guidelines that drive excellence and innovation in DevOps.
• Willing to travel abroad when required.
• Provide on-site support as required by the company or client.
• Carry out additional duties as may occur from time to time as instructed and agreed by the Practice Management Team.

Skills and Qualifications

Core Technical Knowledge Required

• Strong hands-on experience with Azure DevOps (Pipelines, Repos, Boards, Artifacts) and/or GitHub (Actions, Packages, Advanced Security).
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Azure service automation, including App Services, Logic Apps, Storage Accounts, Azure Functions, Key Vault, and related Azure resources.
• Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform, Bicep, or ARM templates.
• Experience with hosted and self-hosted agents running on Azure Virtual Machines and Virtual Machine Scale Sets (VMSS).
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes (AKS) for container orchestration.
• Scripting skills using PowerShell, Bash, Python, and YAML pipeline authoring.
• Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools including Azure Monitor, Application Insights, Grafana, and Prometheus.
• Basic understanding of security practices including secrets management, role-based access control (RBAC), and vulnerability scanning.
• Working knowledge of Agile and Scrum methodologies.
• Excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Detail-oriented with a focus on automation and continuous process improvement.

Experience and Background

• 4-6 years of overall experience in DevOps, Infrastructure, or Cloud Engineering roles.
• 3+ years of hands-on experience with Azure DevOps and/or GitHub pipeline development and automation.
• 2+ years of experience working with Azure cloud infrastructure in production environments.
• Demonstrated experience building and maintaining end-to-end CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum teams with regular release cycles.
• Background in software development, systems administration, or QA automation is advantageous.
• Ability to handle highly confidential information with tact and discretion.
• Eagerness to learn and continually develop professional and technical skills.

Certifications

• Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate.
• Microsoft Certified: Azure DevOps Engineer Expert.
• Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA).
• GitHub Actions Certification.
• Desirable Technical Experience
• Experience with serverless computing, including Azure Functions and Logic Apps.
• Exposure to database administration and performance tuning.
• Experience supporting enterprise-scale cloud platforms and DevOps practices.
• Familiarity with modern application deployment and operational excellence principles.
